Those community partnerships resulted in thousands of children attending school. It also resulted in significant improvements to health care, access to clean water, financial literacy training, economic opportunity and food security — all of which lifted up communities, allowing them to thrive.
In September 2020, WE Charity Canada announced that it would begin winding down all its operations. At the same time, the organization said that all outstanding development projects underway or planned would be soon completed.
For most of the nonprofit’s projects, that meant entering the final stages of its WE Villages five-pillar development model, which aims at long-term sustainability for the communities it works with. When completed, the projects will be managed by the locals, who now have the capacity to plan for future needs and to lead the projects into the future.
